IELTS Test Preparation and Planning

IELTS Exam Syllabus and Pattern

IELTS Test Scoring System

IELTS uses nine-band scoring scale to measure the proficiency of English language from Score-Band 1 for Beginners through to Score-Band 9 for Expert.

There are two types of test conducted by IELTS: Academic and General Training. Listening and speaking are same for both tests but differs in writing and reading components.

The reading, listening and writing section of all IELTS tests are conducted on the same day, with no breaks in between them. And, the speaking section can be conducted other day and test center will inform candidates.

The total IELTS Exam duration is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Listening

4 Recordings

Listening to the natural voice sound and answer all questions.

Writing

(60 min)

2 tasks

IELTS Academic

1st task –  summarize or explain the information in graph or table.

2nd task – write an essay in response to a problem and argument.

IELTS General Training

1st task – ask to write a letter on explaining information of presented situation.

2nd task – write an essay in response to a problem and argument.

Speaking

(11-14 min)

3 tasks

1st task – ask you general questions about yourself.

2nd task – ask you to talk about a particular topic.

3rd task – ask questions from the topic discussed in Part 2.
